In the Spring of 2019, we embarked on
a 3-week west coast kirtan tour ranging from Portland, OR to San Diego,
CA. The entire tour was done on a donation-basis, honoring our deep
commitment to ensure the wide accessibility of kirtan and Bhakti Yoga.
In honor of this commitment, we also made a mental health wellness center
and two maximum-security prisons- Oregon State Correctional Institution
and San Quentin State Prison- as stops on our tour.
Since that time our Prison Outreach Program has grown at an incredible pace.
We have made many more prison visits, and, due to your generous donations, we
were able to give give a harmonium, a set of kartals, and two drums for the men
at San Quentin to start their own kirtan band. Over the last 3 months we have
received requests from over 40 prisons throughout the country to come and offer
kirtan at their facility. Over 50 people in prisons wrote to ask for materials,
support, guidance, and book resources from the foundation. We are currently in process
of fulfilling these requests and now include letter writing as a regular part of our seva.
It is an honor to be able to deepen relationships in this way.
We would like to work to visit all who request us to come and chant at their
prisons and need your financial support so that we can make this a reality.
When factoring travel, administration expenses, material expenses, shipping
and mailing, and site visits it comes out to approximately $800 per visit.
We are working to put together prison tours to help defray the costs, but we
need your help so that we can fulfill these sincere and heartfelt requests.
This is what SACRED COMMUNITY looks like: when we realize we aren't separate
and so resources flow freely to where they are most needed. Our satsang extends
beyond our usual kirtan and retreat family. There are sincere seekers, just like
you, who are behind bars this very moment, their heart burning with longing for
the God Within, who can't just go to a kirtan whenever they want, who don't have
access to the same books or teachers, who can't just hop on the internet for words
of wisdom, and who are asking for support.
Let's do our part to make SACRED COMMUNITY
In Sincere Gratitude,
